A dam Lambert (born January 29, 1982) is an American singer, songwriter and stage actor from San Diego, California. Initially starting out as an underground artist, he garnered himself a mainstream audience after auditioning for American Idol (a decision sparked by an epiphany at Burning Man) and finishing as the runner-up on the eighth season of the show in May 2009. Lambert's vocals and risk-taking, fearless approach earned him the respect of Industry VIPs, from Slash and Queen to Lady Gaga. He's been dubbed "a musical chameleon" and is the first successful openly gay mainstream pop artist to launch a career on a major label in America. Lambert's live band includes his long-time friend and guitarist to Madonna, Monte Pittman.

Lambert released his debut album, For Your Entertainment, in November 2009, via RCA Records/19 Recordings. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 in December 2009 selling 198,000 copies in the United States in the first week. For Your Entertainment is certified Gold and has sold 708,000 copies in the US as of August 18, 2010, and over 1 million worldwide. He worked with producers Rob Cavallo, Greg Wells, Jeff Bhasker, Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly, Ryan Tedder and Max Martin as well as writers Linda Perry, Sam Sparro, Lady Gaga, Pink, Justin Hawkins and Matt Bellamy of Muse.

In 2010, Lambert was nominated for a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for Whataya Want From Me.

Adam Lambert was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised in Rancho Peñasquitos, San Diego, California. He is the son of Leila, a Jewish-American princess from Jersey and Eber Lambert, an American writer and former DJ. He has a younger brother Neil. Adam was born into a Liberal family and raised in his mother's Jewish religion.

Lambert regularly performed at Upright and did theatre to pay the bills, playing Fiyero in the National Tour and LA productions of Wicked; 110 in the Shade and Brigadoon before being cast the role of Joshua in The Ten Commandments alongside Val Kilmer.

While on tour, he began collaborating with composer/guitarist Monte Pittman on a glam hard rock project. The Citizen Vein was formed with Adam as frontman, Monte as guitarist, bassist Tommy Victor (Prong) and drummer Steve Sidelnyk (Madonna/Massive Attack). The underground alt/rock band regularly performed at The Cat Club in Hollywood.

Adam's creative turning point was being cast in a six-month European tour of the musical, Hair. He dove into hippie era history and paralleled with his very own summer of love at Burning Man, which completed him with a major spiritual expansion. He returned to Hollywood inspired to make his mark. He made appearances as a glam rock soul alter ego in The Zodiac Show, an underground concert-style after-hours party created by Carmit Bachar of the Pussycat Dolls, LA based photographer Lee Cherry and their friends. He would later perform for audiences at the Burning Man art festival.

The show served as a music-driven platform for freedom of expression and diversity, fusing classics with mainstream and the avant-garde. Adam performed alongside performance artists; classical and rock musicians; dancers, rappers and fire-eating supermodels. Zodiac became a legendary all night event hat attracted celebrities such as Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Usher, Michael C. Hall and the late Brittany Murphy.
